A shining example of this is the Roufusport Mixed Martial Arts Academy, run by former Kick-boxing champion, Duke Roufus, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Duke was brought up in the martial arts and trained by his father from an early age and began competing in the kick-boxing circuit during the Nineties were he has great success and numerous titles in the sport including the W.K.A. North American Super Heavyweight Championship, W.A.K.O. World Super Heavyweight Championship, W.K.B.A. World Super Heavyweight Championship and the K.I.C.K. World Super Heavyweight Championship during the 1990s. Roufus won the IKF International Kickboxing Federation Pro Muay Thai Rules World Super Heavyweight Title on December 4, 1998 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA over Hiriwa TeRangi of New Zealand by unanimous decision 50-43 on all 3 judges’ cards.

On March 19, 1999, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA in his only defence of the title, Roufus quickly defeated Australia’s WKA World Champion Grant Barker with a combination of strikes which included a leg kick, 2 knees to Barker’s head and finished with a high head kick, Roufus only took 39 seconds to knockout the Australian in the opening round of the scheduled 5 round Muay Thai bout.


Duke is well known and well-respected within the MMA community and he and the Roufusport team have featured on such popular TV shows such as the UFC’s Ultimate fighter where his student, Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis won the shows fight finale and later went on to become the UFC lightweight champion under Dukes instruction. cushDuke has featured everywhere from the Joe Rogan Podcast to emcee-ing the largest MMA events.


Nowadays Duke spends his time building champions in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts at the Roufusport gym, with his team of highly capable coaches such as the striking master, Scott Cushman and Jiu-jitsu genius, Daniel ‘Bigdog’ Wanderley. Together they provide a training environment that gives a competitive edge and keeps the sports top competitors coming back for training sessions and camps. The roster of names for today’s “RouTang Clan’ includes an impressive list of top contenders and champions from fight leagues such as the UFC, Bellator, VFC and RFA. Both Pettis Brothers Anthony and Sergio aka, Team Pettis, Showtime and the Phenom respectively. Current VFC middle-weight champion; Mike ‘Biggie’ Rhodes, Bellator flyweight contender; Emmanuel ‘El Matador’ Sanchez and UFC welter-weight contender Tyron Woodley all trust their careers and their futures to the hands of Duke and his team. Duke has also been sought out by MMA-newcomer and WWE veteran, CM Punk, to train him for his up and coming bout at UFC 203.
