Frankie Edgar gets love from Conor McGregor, Max Holloway following a knockout loss to Brian Ortega
Brian Ortega earned the biggest win of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career last night (Sat., March 3, 2018) after becoming the first and only man to stop Frankie Edgar inside the Octagon, knocking out the former Lightweight champion in the co-main event of UFC 222 in Las Vegas, Nevada (watch highlights here).
It was a big blow for “The Answer,” as it means he will no longer get his much-desired championship bout against Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight champion Max Holloway, a fight that will now go to”T-City.” In defeat, though, Edgar got mad respect from “Blessed,” who took to social media to praise Edgar for taking a dangerous fight against Ortega, risking (and eventually losing) a championship bout against the Hawaiian he already had locked up.
You had nothing to gain from taking that fight @FrankieEdgar. But you took it you defended what you already earned. There’s no belt for sacrificing everything but true fans and Jersey knows no belt can outshine what you bring to the sport. Chin up bratha

Surprisingly, former division champion Conor McGregor also took to Twitter to show his love for Edgar, reminding everyone that it could’ve been him fighting at UFC 222 instead of Ortega.
Frankie’s career deserved for that to be against me tonight.
Love and respect always!
A true fighters fighter
